Alegre Ballet Folklorico Rules



At Alegre Ballet Folklorico, we strive for excellence in a respectful and disciplined learning environment. To ensure the success of our students and the smooth operation of our program, the following rules and guidelines have been established. Please read this document carefully. All participants and families are responsible for understanding and complying with these policies.

Arrive fully prepared with all required items (e.g., skirt, shoes, handkerchief, etc.).
Class time is reserved strictly for learning and practicing. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. A verbal warning will be given once further disruption may result in removal from class.
Always treat others with respect—through both words and actions.
Breaks are a privilege, not a guarantee, and will only be granted if earned and necessary.
Conversations with instructors should occur before or after class, never during instruction.
Guests must remain in designated waiting areas during class.
Attendance and participation are regularly tracked.
Cell phones may not be used until the class has been officially dismissed.
Do not leave the dance floor during practice without instructor permission.
Video recording is not allowed during rehearsals.
Personal issues should be addressed outside of class time.


ATTENDANCE POLICY



  • Attendance is mandatory for all scheduled classes.
  • Students must arrive on time and be ready to begin promptly.
  • Notify the instructor in advance in case of emergency or tardiness.
  • Dancers are responsible for learning any missed material.
  • Attendance at the final class or rehearsal before a performance is required.


FEMALE DRESS CODE



  • Hair must be worn up and secured (no bangs).
  • All-black attire is required. Clothing must be comfortable and allow full movement. No jeans or street clothes.
  • Required class items: shoes, skirt, handkerchief. Bring to every practice regardless of planned use.
  • Additional items for Junior and Adult classes: reboso and fan.
  • Maintain personal hygiene.


MALE DRESS CODE



  • All-black attire is required. Clothing must be comfortable and allow movement. No jeans or street clothes.
  • Required class items: boots and handkerchief. Bring to every practice.
  • Maintain personal hygiene.


performance Guidelines



  • Attendance at the final rehearsal before a performance is mandatory.
  • No family or guests are allowed in dressing areas.
  • No food or drink (except water) in dressing rooms or near dancers within one hour of the performance.


FEMALE DRESS CODE



  • Junior and Adult: Hair must be styled in a parted bun with base braid and hairnet prior to arrival.
  • Children and Infantil: Hair must be in a bun with base braid and hairnet prior to arrival.
  • Makeup must be applied before arriving.
  • False eyelashes required for Junior and Adult dancers.
  • No colored nail polish. French/American tip is acceptable. Applies to toenails when barefoot or in huaraches.
  • Bring hairpins, safety pins, earrings, hair spray/gel, skin-colored bodysuit, bloomers, slip (fondo), and red/paisley handkerchiefs.
  • Clean white and black shoes, black boots (Junior/Adult), white boots (Children 2/Adult), and Miguelito huaraches (Adult) are required.


MALE DRESS CODE



  • Hair should be well-groomed and styled with gel or hairspray.
  • Beards and mustaches must be neatly trimmed. Clean-shaven if required.
  • Bring red, black, and paisley handkerchiefs.
  • Clean black and white boots and Miguelito huaraches required.
  • Maintain personal hygiene.


MAJOR / LARGE PERFORMANCES



  • Participation is required for all dancers.
  • Required major events: Two annual shows, Cinco de Mayo, and Diecisiete de Septiembre.
  • 100% attendance required in the month prior to major shows.
  • Mandatory dress rehearsals and punctuality.


PUBLIC / PRIVATE PERFORMANCES



Public Performances: Open to the public (e.g., festivals, parks, churches). Dancers are provided with an entry guests may be required to pay.
Private Performances: For dancers only (e.g., weddings, quinceañeras). No guests, friends, or family are permitted unless pre-approved by the instructor.

MAINTENANCE / HANDLING



  • All dancers are responsible for cleaning and mending wardrobe items with approval.
  • Do not clean or dry clean items without prior instructions.
  • Wardrobe must be picked up in a garment bag before a performance.
  • Damaged or lost items must be paid for by the dancer.
  • All dancers must stay after performances (15-30 minutes) to help repack the wardrobe.


USE



  • Wardrobe is for Alegre Ballet Folklorico events only.
  • Any outside use must be approved by the director.
  • Some wardrobe pieces may be available for rent.


fees / payments



TUITION and FEES



  • All payments must be submitted online via QuickBooks.
  • $50 annual household registration fee.
  • Tuition is due NET 14 days.
  • A 3% late fee will apply if not paid by the due date.
  • Students will not be allowed to attend class after the third payment notice if unpaid.
  • Returned payments must be repaid within two weeks, plus a $35 fee.
  • No exceptions without prior approval.


REFUNDS



There are no refunds.



Concerns & ethics



CONCERNS / PARENT MEETINGS



  • Parents are welcome to observe practices but may not interrupt class.
  • Only students should be in the dance room.
  • To speak with an instructor, please arrange a meeting before or after class.
  • Parents may assist in the following ways:

o Transportation

o Costume repair

o Facility upkeep

o Sponsorships

o Serving on different committees



VOLUNTEER/SERVICE & DONATION REQUIREMENTS



100% participation in group raffles is required.

o Group raffle guidelines are

▪ (25) tickets per dancer.

▪ For multiple member- households, (25) tickets for the first dancer, and (10) tickets for each additional

▪ Each raffle ticket is valued at $5/each

▪ Families may opt out by donating the equivalent value.


● Each household must complete 5 service hours per semester

o Service hours may be fulfilled via performance support at events as requested (via signup genius)

o Service hours may also be completed by donations to facility maintenance via Amazon wish list and support event donations (e.g., concessions, supplies). For every $25, one hour service will be credited.



CODE OF ETHICS



  • Do not recruit dancers from other groups or attempt to recruit Alegre dancers for outside groups.
  • Choreography and dances taught at Alegre may not be replicated for external purposes without approval.
  • Respect the culture, history, and contributions of all maestros and maestras.
